Creating Your Own Pebble Pool

Should you wish to create a larger pebble feature, you may need to build it yourself. This is fairly simple and a major advantage is that it creates a child safe water feature.

All you need to do

Firstly, a sump needs to be dug. Before lining it, lay a footing under the area on which the feature will sit and then use a underlay and a heavy duty pond liner. Once in position place another piece of underlay over the area of the footing and then build up with bricks or blocks to the surface level.

Now position a suitable pump and hose in the pool. Then lay a piece a concrete reinforcing mesh over the whole pool (on larger features additional support may be required to span the feature). Cover this with a smaller galvanised mesh, leaving a large enough hole to access the pump.

Position your chosen feature on the mesh above the brick support and connect the hose to it. Place a large piece of natural flat stone over the pump inspection hole in the smaller mesh. Now you'’re ready to cover the remaining mesh with cobbles or stones of your choice.
