Combined Biological Filters and Ultraviolet Clarifiers

If you have decided you would benefit from both a biological filter and an ultraviolet Clarifier, it is possible to save yourself a lot of time and trouble by using a combined unit.

Choosing the right unit....
These units offer a simple answer if there is a model which will cope with both your Biological and U.V. needs.
If this option seems preferable, refer back to the sections regarding filters and Ultra violet clarifiers and then judge whether there is a combined unit to suit both your requirements.

Choosing A Combined Filtration Unit.

  • As these Units are combined you must ensure both parts are going to be able to cope with your pond conditions. Consult an in store expert.

  • These units are all pump fed, however most are gravity return (excluding Hozelock / Cyprio filters) Therefore positioning needs to be considered.

  • All units have to be sited out of the water.

Installing A Combined Filter

  • These units are simpler to install than separate units and have less plumbing.

  • Remember to consult the individual instructions for guidance.

  • Electrical installation must meet current regulations, if unsure consult a qualified electrician

Maintaining A Combined Filter

  • Operate from at least March to October, 24 hrs a day.

  • If not in use in the winter drain and store away from frost.

  • Only clean filter media in a bucket of pond water and never all at the media same time (refer to "Filter Maintainance").

  • Change the U.V bulb and seals every six working months.

  • Use a filter starter to accelerate maturity.

  • Do not switch U.V. on for 4-6 weeks to allow filter to mature.

  • Filter must be pump fed and gravity returned to pond.

  • Never clean all foams at the same time.

  • Only use pond water to clean filter material.

  • Always use largest hose possible – preferably 1 1/4” or 11/2”.

  • Ensure volume of water being turned over is sufficient.
